Egypt-China Partnership to Build EVs Locally and Export Across Africa

Egypt is positioning itself as a regional hub for electric vehicle manufacturing, with growing calls to localize Chinese technology and move into joint production ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's anticipated visit to Cairo. The new partnership aims to export EVs to African and Middle Eastern markets, as both nations celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations.

A New Chapter in Bilateral Investment

The Egyptian Chinese Businessmen's Association welcomed the historic visit, describing it as a pivotal moment for economic and industrial cooperation in advanced technology and renewable energy sectors. Moving beyond importing finished products requires transferring Chinese expertise directly into Egyptian factories.

Mohamed Alaa, Secretary General of the association, highlighted China's advanced industrial base and Egypt's strategic geographic location with its growing manufacturing capabilities. Combined, these strengths allow both countries to build a production model that extends far beyond domestic market needs.

Building a Complete EV Ecosystem

Manufacturing goes beyond simple vehicle assembly — it covers batteries, electric motors, electronics, and energy management systems. Establishing local supply chains capable of supporting both production and export represents the foundation of this cooperation, particularly as the global shift toward electric mobility accelerates rapidly.

Artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, food security, and digital infrastructure are also part of the targeted cooperation areas, reflecting the deepening economic ties between Cairo and Beijing. The African market presents a promising opportunity for Egyptian-made products, with demand for clean and sustainable transport growing steadily across the continent.
