Egypt Car Sales Surpass 116,000 Units with 39.5% Growth in Seven Months
Egypt's car sales rose 39.5% in the first seven months of 2026 to reach 116,696 units, according to a Focus2Move report. Changan led brand growth at 308.3%, followed by Haval at 184.2%, while electric vehicle sales surged 405.1%. The recovery follows 2025 sales of 172,386 vehicles, an annual increase of 78%.
116,696 vehicles. That's the number Egypt's automotive market recorded in the first seven months of 2026, according to a report from the American research firm Focus2Move. The figure represents 39.5% growth compared to the same period last year — a clear signal of continued recovery in car sales after years of sharp decline.
Changan and Haval Lead Growth Rates in Egypt
Changan topped the fastest-growing brands with a 308.3% increase — a figure that reflects how aggressively Chinese brands have penetrated the Egyptian market. Haval followed at 184.2%, then King Long at 126.8%, and Jetour at 124.4%. Chinese brands weren't alone. Volkswagen climbed 107.8%, and Citroen gained 86.5%.
Toyota and Nissan Keep Growing — But at Different Speeds
Toyota posted 77.1% growth, while Suzuki rose 63%. Nissan recorded 41%, and MG around 40.4%. Chevrolet and Chery grew at nearly identical rates — 30% and 30.6% respectively. Yet some major brands barely benefited from the surge. Hyundai managed just 0.4% growth, Kia 6.8%, and Golden Dragon 4.8%. The gap between Chinese and Korean brands is wide. Does this signal a real shift in Egyptian buyer preferences?
Electric Vehicles Jump 405%
Electric vehicles recorded extraordinary growth of 405.1% in 2026, raising their share to about 2.2% of Egypt's total market. That leap follows an increase from 942 EVs sold in 2024 to 1,416 units in 2025 — a 50.3% rise. Among electric brands, Geely led with a stunning 2,262.1% increase, while Cupra climbed 92.3%, Citroen 23.4%, and Hyundai 12.5%. On the flip side, EV sales from MG dropped 93.7% and Chery fell 92.9% — a contrast worth noting.
Market Recovery Returns to Pre-Crisis Levels
172,386 vehicles were sold in 2025 with 78% annual growth, a figure that shows Egypt's automotive market is regaining momentum. The latest report covers only the first seven months of 2026, yet the indicators suggest this year could end with record numbers if the current pace holds. Chinese brands are capturing the largest share of this rebound. Electric vehicles are carving out a path that barely existed a few years ago. The numbers speak clearly.
