Egypt's Car Market Sales Rise 6.4% in June to 17.4k Vehicles
Egypt's automotive market saw a 6.4% sales increase in June 2026, totaling 17,458 vehicles. Bus sales nearly doubled with a 105.7% surge, and trucks grew 10.6%, while passenger car sales declined 2.3%. The data highlights strong commercial vehicle demand alongside cautious consumer behavior in the passenger segment.
The Egyptian car market posted a 6.4% increase in sales during June, with total vehicle sales reaching 17,458 units compared to 16,414 in the same month last year. The headline number looks solid, but digging deeper shows a market moving in very different directions depending on the segment.
Bus Sales Nearly Double
Bus sales across all categories jumped a staggering 105.7% in June, reaching 2,038 vehicles compared to just 991 units in June 2025. This explosive growth signals a major push toward public transportation and fleet modernization programs across the country.
The numbers are hard to ignore. More than double the volume in a single month points to a clear strategic shift by operators toward cost-effective mass transit solutions that deliver better fuel efficiency and lower per-passenger operating costs.
Truck Segment Gains Momentum
Truck sales in the local market grew by 10.6%, hitting 3,051 vehicles in June compared to 2,758 units during the same period last year. The commercial vehicle segment continues to benefit from construction activity, infrastructure projects, and expanding logistics operations.
Demand for light and medium trucks is climbing steadily, fueled by e-commerce growth and urban delivery needs. The sustained momentum here reflects broader economic activity and the ongoing development push in Egypt's major urban centers.
Passenger Cars Slip Back
Passenger car sales took a different turn, declining 2.3% to 12,369 units in June versus 12,665 vehicles in the same month of 2025. The dip remains modest but highlights continued caution among individual buyers.
Rising new car prices and currency fluctuations are keeping some consumers on the sidelines, waiting for greater market stability. Others are shifting toward the used car market, hunting for value options that fit tighter household budgets in the current economic climate.
