Egypt's Giant Automotive Glass Complex: 15 Times Local Demand and 90% Exported

Engineer Mahmoud Haroun, an automotive glass industry expert, has revealed the existence of a massive Egyptian industrial complex unique in the Middle East and Africa, dedicated to producing car glass to global specifications. Its output volume far exceeds local market needs, with a total production capacity reaching 1.5 million cars once both phases are complete.

Unprecedented Production Capacity in the Region

The industrial complex was built in two phases, each with a production capacity of 750,000 cars, according to Haroun's statements during his interview on the 'Arabity' program broadcast on Radio Masr, presented by journalist Hisham El-Zini. That combined figure positions this facility ahead of all similar operations across the entire region.

This is the largest production capacity of its kind in the Middle East and Africa in the automotive glass sector, a point Haroun emphasized clearly. The complex aims to manufacture all types of car glass not currently produced in Egypt, adhering to international standards and specifications accepted in global markets.

Export Figures and Boosting Egyptian Industry

The numbers shared by the expert tell a different story from the usual reality of local manufacturing. The complex currently produces the equivalent of nearly 15 times the local market's demand for automotive glass, and this massive surplus has one primary destination.

About 90% of the factory's production is directed toward export, a percentage that directly strengthens the competitiveness of Egyptian products in global markets. This high ratio supports the growth of Egyptian automotive components exports and provides a significant boost to the auto feeder industries sector in Egypt.

The project carries strategic importance that extends beyond its direct production value, as it supports the localization of automotive glass manufacturing and reduces reliance on imports. It also opens the door for global car companies to deal with an Egyptian supplier that applies international quality standards, reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional hub for automotive components manufacturing.
