Egypt's Automobile Club Meets Sports Minister to Discuss Motorsport Future, Including Mille Miglia and F1 Plans

Cairo witnessed a high-level meeting between Sports Minister Jowhar Nabil and a delegation from the Egyptian Automobile and Touring Club, where they discussed the future of motorsports in Egypt. The delegation included engineer Ihab Lihita, Treasurer, and engineer Raouf Gafar, Board Member and Head of the Rallies and Racing Committee, with the presence of General Khaled Fouda, Advisor to the President for Local Development.

Mille Miglia: A Historic Race Set for Egypt

The talks centered on a major proposal to bring the legendary "Mille Miglia" race to Egypt for the first time. Known as the "Thousand Miles," this classic car rally is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious events, blending sport with tourism while attracting owners of historic vehicles from across the globe.

Gafar revealed that the club intends to organize the event in Egypt during 2027, with dozens of cars arriving from European and Arab countries. The initiative aims to boost tourism, as participants will stay multiple days, using hotels and various tourism services, creating a significant economic impact for the host cities.

Government Backing Secured

Minister Nabil pledged full support to make the event a success, coordinating with the Tourism Ministry and other state bodies, including the Finance and Interior Ministries. The goal is to ease the entry of participating vehicles, secure the race route, and provide necessary logistical assistance — essentials for hosting an event of this scale.

Formula 1: A Grand Ambition

In a separate file, the Sports Minister revealed Egypt's ambition to host Formula 1 races, emphasizing that the project requires massive investments reaching tens of millions of dollars. He noted that several investors and international funding bodies have already expressed interest, provided that suitable land is secured and the project receives full government backing.

Several attractive sites have been shortlisted for the circuit, with the final choice depending on infrastructure readiness and accessibility. If realized, this move would place Egypt firmly on the global motorsport map, opening doors for future international events and cementing the country's position in the racing world.
