Egyptian Auto Club Warns of Fake Websites Offering International Driving Licenses

The Egyptian Automobile and Touring Club has issued a formal warning to the public regarding the spread of online pages and entities falsely claiming to issue international driving permits. In its latest statement, the club affirmed that it is the only legally authorized body in Egypt responsible for issuing such permits, clarifying that any license issued outside the club will not be recognized internationally.

Risks for Travelers Using Unauthorized Licenses

The club explained that obtaining an international driving permit from unofficial sources exposes the holder to numerous legal issues when traveling abroad, as well as complications when attempting to rent vehicles in foreign countries. The statement emphasized that permits issued by unauthorized entities will be practically worthless and may lead to fines or legal penalties for the bearer.

Official Channels for Obtaining an International Driving Permit

The international driving permit is issued exclusively through the Egyptian Automobile and Touring Club, either at its main branch in downtown Cairo or through its various branches across the country. The service is also available at some major Egyptian airports. The process is conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, and the permit is valid and recognized in over 150 countries worldwide, making it an essential document for anyone planning to travel or drive outside Egypt.

Basic Requirements for the International License

The club outlined several conditions applicants must meet to obtain an international driving permit. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. They must also hold a valid Egyptian driving license with at least 12 months of remaining validity. Once these requirements are met, citizens can proceed with the application process.

Required Documents and Fees

The list of documents needed to obtain an international driving permit includes: a valid passport, the original Egyptian driving license along with a copy, the original passport with a copy, two recent passport-sized photographs, and the original national ID card with a copy. Finally, applicants must pay the prescribed fees for the permit. The club advises checking its branches for updated fee amounts before applying.
