Article Summary

Chinese cars have captured more than 40% of Egypt's automotive market after being nearly absent 15 years ago. European brands, which once controlled 40% to 45% of sales, have seen their share shrink significantly. Electric vehicles, SUVs, and hybrids rose from 5% to 12% of the total market. The shift reflects a radical change in Egyptian consumer preferences toward technological diversity.

Chinese cars now control over 40% of Egypt's auto market. That figure would have been unthinkable 15 years ago, when Chinese brands were nearly invisible while European manufacturers commanded 40% to 45% of total sales. The tables have turned completely.

How Chery and Other Chinese Brands Rewrote the Map

Maged Mostafa, a sales and marketing expert, revealed during his interview on the "Arabety" program on Radio Egypt that the Chinese expansion was no accident. Chinese brands multiplied their model lineups, advanced their technology, and aggressively entered segments they had never touched before. The result? BYD, Geely, and Haval have become household names on every Egyptian street.

EVs and Hybrids Jump to 12%

The shift goes beyond Chinese brands. Electric vehicles, SUVs, and hybrids now represent about 12% of the market, up from just 5% previously. This growth reveals the scale of technological diversification in Egypt's automotive sector. Egyptian consumers now face choices they could only dream of five years ago.

But what does this expansion mean for European brands? Their share has dropped noticeably. Volkswagen, Peugeot, and Renault face fierce competition from Chinese models offering higher specs at lower prices. The battle is no longer just about price — technology, warranty. Spare parts have entered the equation.

Will the Chinese Advance Continue?

The numbers say yes. With every new model launched by Chery, MG, or Jetour, the space for traditional brands shrinks further. Egypt's market is shifting rapidly toward more diverse options and fewer old loyalties.
