The latest vehicle registration data from the Egyptian Motor Vehicle Compulsory Insurance Pool reveals a significant shift in the ranking of the most registered automotive brands during June 2026, with Chevrolet reclaiming the market lead from Nissan, which had dominated the top spot in previous months. Chevrolet Takes a Commanding Lead

Chevrolet registered a total of 3,259 vehicles in June, securing the first position across all vehicle categories. This strong performance was largely driven by its robust presence in the commercial transport segment, alongside the impressive showing of the Optra model within the passenger car market. The achievement marks Chevrolet's return to the top after a period of absence, reflecting the success of its multi-segment strategy. Compared to May, this leap underscores how the brand has effectively leveraged both fleet and retail demand to regain momentum.

Nissan Holds Passenger Car Crown Despite Overall Dip

Nissan came in second with 2,158 total registered vehicles, down from its May tally of 2,429 vehicles. Despite this overall decline, the Japanese automaker retained its leadership in the passenger car category, thanks to the continued strong performance of the Sunny model. This result confirms Nissan's solid foothold in the Egyptian market, particularly in the highly competitive passenger car segment that remains a key battleground for automakers.

Chinese Brands Strengthen Presence; Top Ten List Reveals New Dynamics

The subsequent positions witnessed fierce competition between Chinese and Korean brands. Chery ranked third with 1,446 vehicles, followed by Hyundai in fourth with 1,332 units, and Jetour in fifth with 1,198 units. Close behind were MG with 1,191 vehicles, Soueast with 1,129, Toyota with 1,001, Kia with 881, and finally Mercedes rounding out the top ten with 861 vehicles. This ranking underscores the growing diversity of choices for Egyptian consumers, with four Chinese brands—Chery, Jetour, MG, and Soueast—now firmly entrenched in the top ten.

Optra Emerges as Passenger Car Surprise of the Month

In the passenger car segment specifically, Nissan retained the top spot with 2,099 units, followed by Chery, Hyundai, Jetour, and MG. However, the biggest surprise of June came from the Chevrolet Optra, which recorded 731 registered vehicles, making it one of the standout models for the month. This strong performance demonstrates Chevrolet's ability to compete effectively in the passenger car arena alongside its dominance in the transport sector.
