Local Assembly Race: Chery Leads, Nissan Follows
Nissan secured second place with 872 units and a 20% share, while Hyundai took third with 595 vehicles and 14%. Changan was close behind at 587 units, also 14%. Chevrolet sold 500 cars for 12%. Toyota rounded out the top group with 93 units and 2%. Haval registered 76 vehicles, good for 2%. The midfield battle is tight.
From January through August 2026, dealers moved 70,522 locally manufactured vehicles, up from 62,180 in the same period of 2025. That's roughly 13% growth. The tally includes passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and more. Hyundai benefited from the same momentum.
Passenger Cars Alone Hit 42,212 Units in Eight Months
Locally built passenger cars rose 4% year-on-year between January and August 2026, reaching 42,212 units versus 40,529 in the prior-year period. That's slower than the overall market but still positive. Demand for local sedans and SUVs remains steady.
Will the momentum hold through year-end? Early signs point yes. Changan and Chevrolet are fighting hard in the budget segment, while Chery defends its lead with a broad local lineup. Toyota, despite slipping to sixth, remains a key player. The ranking is far from settled.
