Chery car registrations in the Egyptian market recorded a modest increase of 3.3% during the first half of 2026, reaching 8,947 vehicles across various traffic departments, compared to 8,659 vehicles during the same period in 2025, according to a report issued by the Egyptian Motor Insurance Pool.

Monthly Fluctuations in Chery Registrations

On a monthly basis, Chery registrations showed notable volatility during the first half of the year. The highest level was recorded in March with 1,699 cars, while February saw the lowest figure at 1,397 cars. After the March peak, registrations declined in April, followed by a limited recovery in May, before dropping again in June. This pattern reflects the brand's uneven performance throughout the period despite achieving a slight year-on-year increase in total registrations.

Challenges Behind the Limited Growth

Mohamed Fathi, a car dealer, stated that the limited growth in registrations for the Chinese brand came amid a set of challenges faced by the company in recent months. He explained that the most prominent factor was the decline in quantities offered and supplied by the local distributor, which directly impacted the number of cars available in the market. He added that the absence of one of the brand's key models, the locally assembled Chery Tiggo 7, was among the reasons affecting Chery's sales performance during this period, especially given the strong demand this model had previously enjoyed before its production was halted.

Fathi also pointed out that the slowdown experienced by the local car market due to weak overall vehicle demand, along with the continued impact of economic changes, pushed a segment of customers to delay their purchasing decisions, which limited registration growth rates. He further explained that the entry of new brands into the Egyptian market with competitively priced models increased the intensity of competition, putting additional pressure on established brands like Chery.

Looking ahead, the coming period is expected to see attempts by the local distributor to enhance the availability of sought-after models, especially with continued demand for Chery in the Egyptian market. However, the success of these efforts will depend on the company's ability to overcome supply chain and local production challenges.
