A Car Without Brakes: A Serious Violation That Can Lead to One Year in Prison and a 5,000 EGP Fine
A car driving down the road with faulty brakes. This scenario doesn't just endanger the driver — it turns every vehicle into a ticking time bomb on public highways, especially in the case of high-speed transport trucks that may lack the most basic safety equipment. Egyptian law has set clear penalties for this violation, ranging from up to one year in prison to fines reaching five thousand Egyptian pounds.
Penalty Details Under the Traffic Law
Article (75) of the Traffic Law stipulates that driving a high-speed transport vehicle lacking both types of brakes, or having all or one of its brakes unfit for use, exposes the driver to penalties that can reach six months in prison and a fine of no less than three hundred pounds and no more than fifteen hundred pounds, or either of these two penalties. But what happens when the violation is repeated? The law doubles the penalty if the same act is committed a second time within six months of the final conviction. If the offender repeats the act a third time, the penalty becomes even harsher, with imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of no less than one thousand pounds and no more than five thousand pounds.
Smart and Field Monitoring on the Roads
The matter doesn't stop at legal texts. Traffic authorities rely on a system of fixed and mobile smart radars equipped with advanced technologies capable of detecting violations with high precision and sending them immediately to operations rooms. An intensive security deployment on roads and axes contributes to catching violators and achieving road safety.
The numbers tell the real story — the potential one-year prison term reflects how seriously this type of violation is treated. A driver who neglects brake maintenance isn't just risking their own life; they're exposing themselves to severe legal consequences. The gap between a minor infraction and a punishable crime is clear in the provisions of Article 75.
