The recent price reductions announced by five major automotive brands in the Egyptian market—MG, Kia, Chery, and Haval—have reinforced expectations of a continued downward trend in car prices. This comes amid clear signs that the market is entering a new phase of price competition, supported by the Egyptian pound's appreciation against the US dollar, increased vehicle supply, and several companies preparing to launch 2027 models.

Shifting Pricing Dynamics in the Market

Montaser Zaitoun, a member of the General Automotive Division at the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that the recent cuts are a clear indicator of shifting pricing strategies. He predicted that more brands would join the wave of reductions or launch various promotional offers as companies seek to boost sales and protect their market shares amidst intensifying competition. Zaitoun added that the declining dollar exchange rate gradually impacts car import and production costs, giving dealers greater flexibility to adjust prices or offer added value to customers, especially with stable import operations and ample inventory.

Chinese Brands Fuel the Competition

Zaitoun noted that competition has become fiercer than ever, particularly with the rapid expansion of Chinese automakers introducing new models across all price segments. This expansion compels companies to deliver the best value for money through price cuts, financing deals, and cashback programs, offering Egyptian consumers a golden opportunity to purchase new cars at competitive prices. He pointed out that this competitive momentum is breaking the high-price barrier that dominated the market in previous periods.

Ahmed El-Omda, General Manager of AGC, an authorized distributor for several brands, stated that the market is witnessing unprecedented competition among dealers and distributors. He stressed that the recent price cuts will push other companies to revise their pricing policies to maintain competitiveness. El-Omda confirmed that car prices have already begun a gradual downward trajectory for several brands, driven by preparations for 2027 model launches and increased vehicle imports, which have boosted supply and given customers broader choices compared to earlier periods.

End of Overprice Era and Market Balance

El-Omda added that most car dealers have abandoned the practice of imposing unofficial price hikes, known as "overprice," as market balance returns and supply levels improve. He explained that the priority now is to increase sales volumes and accelerate inventory turnover, which directly benefits end consumers who can now purchase new cars without paying premiums or enduring long waits. Looking ahead, further price drops are expected as the dollar continues to strengthen and 2027 models enter the market, making the current period one of the best times to buy a car in Egypt.
