Before Your Inspection: Know the Price and Expiry of Your Car's Fire Extinguisher
A fire extinguisher is one of the most essential safety devices that should be present in every vehicle. It can significantly reduce the risks of fires caused by technical failures or external emergencies. Its importance lies in protecting lives and property, especially since most fires in their early stages are small and can be easily controlled, minimizing potential losses.
How to Determine the Lifespan and Expiry of a Fire Extinguisher
The manufacturing date helps determine the extinguisher's validity and whether it needs replacement or maintenance. For water, dry powder, or foam extinguishers, it is recommended to replace them after 5 years from the operating date. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide extinguishers can last up to 10 years. It is also advised to regularly check the external condition of the extinguisher, ensuring there are no signs of rust, corrosion, or damage, and to review the maintenance label to confirm that periodic checks—typically once a year—have been carried out.
How to Properly Use a Fire Extinguisher
When using a fire extinguisher, aim the hose at the base of the flames, not at the top. Then, squeeze the handle and sweep the hose or extinguisher horizontally from side to side until the fire is completely out. It is important to note that if the fire is large or beyond the extinguisher's capacity, you should evacuate the area immediately and not attempt to fight it.
Fire Extinguisher Prices in the Egyptian Market
Fire extinguisher prices vary in the market depending on size, type, and intended use. Current prices range from approximately 650 Egyptian pounds up to 6,000 pounds, based on capacity and technical specifications. Drivers are advised to purchase a suitable extinguisher for their vehicle and keep it in an easily accessible location to ensure a quick response in emergencies.
