Urgent Warning: Everyday Items in Your Car Could Explode in the Heatwave
As the Egyptian Meteorological Authority warns that most parts of the country will be hit by severe heatwaves in the coming days, citizens are preparing to face soaring temperatures. However, many car owners overlook a hidden danger that may be sitting inside their vehicles without their knowledge. A car parked under direct sunlight does not just turn into a mobile oven—it can become a hazardous environment for certain personal items and tools left inside the cabin, especially as the trapped heat inside the vehicle rises to levels far exceeding the outside temperature.
Perfume Bottles and Alcohol: An Overlooked Threat
One of the most common mistakes drivers make is leaving perfume bottles, alcohol-based products, or sanitizers inside the car for extended periods, especially when the vehicle is parked in an open area under direct sunlight. The danger lies in the fact that these products contain flammable substances. As the temperature inside the cabin rises, they can become a serious hazard—whether through leakage, expansion, or even ignition under certain conditions. This could lead to significant damage inside the car or pose a direct threat to the driver and passengers.
Lighters and E-Cigarettes: Never Leave Them Behind
Smokers need to pay close attention to never leaving lighters, e-cigarettes, or electronic shisha devices inside the car, particularly during heatwave days. These items are highly sensitive to elevated temperatures; they may explode, their batteries may fail, or their contents may expand, making them among the most dangerous objects that can be left inside a closed car in summer. Experts strongly advise removing all such devices entirely before parking under the sun.
Chargers and Soft Drinks: Everyday Items Turned Hazardous
The danger is not limited to flammable materials alone. Some everyday objects can become a threat inside a closed car, including fast chargers, soft drinks, and tightly sealed bottles. As temperatures rise, liquids and gases inside sealed containers expand, increasing the likelihood of explosion or leakage inside the cabin. This can cause damage to upholstery or internal electronics, in addition to the potential danger if the explosion occurs near a passenger or the driver.
To avoid these risks, experts recommend rolling down the car window by just one centimeter to allow cabin ventilation and reduce heat buildup, along with ensuring that all flammable or expandable items are removed before parking under the sun. It is also advisable to use sunshades on the front and rear windshields to minimize heat absorption inside the cabin, thereby protecting both the vehicle and its occupants during extreme heatwaves.
