Most main highways in Cairo and Giza witnessed moderate to heavy traffic congestion during the morning peak hours on Tuesday, as traffic services were deployed to ensure citizen safety, facilitate vehicle movement, and guide drivers to alternative routes. The traffic operations control room intensified its monitoring of the situation on key streets and vital squares, focusing on providing the necessary flow during rush hours.

Traffic Situation in Cairo

According to the traffic operations control room, moderate traffic volumes formed on October Bridge, while Port Said Street experienced significant congestion. Traffic moved slowly on the Nile Corniche for those coming from Helwan and Maadi towards Tahrir Square, as well as for those coming from Maspiro towards the Mazarat area. Heavy traffic congestion was also reported on the Ring Road for those coming from El-Basateen towards El-Moneeb, and from El-Moneeb towards the Autostrad, with continuous traffic jams on Salah Salem Street from Al-Azhar Park to Ferdous Bridge.

Congestion extended to the areas of Nasr City, New Cairo, Ain Shams, Ghameera, and all the way to Ramses Square and its intersection with El-Galaa Street, as well as from El-Qalaa Street to Fustat. Traffic slowed down on the Autostrad for those coming from Bayn El-Jabalain towards El-Basateen, and similarly on the Nile Corniche in Maadi until the Ring Road and Qasr El-Aini Street. Heavy traffic density appeared on the Ring Road towards Katameya for the central plateau, while the El-Marg Ring Road saw significant congestion for those coming from the agricultural road towards the Salam Tunnel and inside the tunnel for those coming from the governorates to Cairo.

Traffic Situation in Giza

In Giza Governorate, heavy traffic was observed on the May 15 Bridge for those coming from the October Bridge link towards Lebanon Square, with moderate congestion on the streets of Giza, Haram, Al-Bahr Al-Aazam, Al-Nil Tourist Road, the Ring Road descent towards Upper Egypt, El-Warraq, and Maryouteya. Faisal Street in the Tawabeq area also experienced noticeable congestion, followed by heavy traffic on Sudan Street until Cairo University and its surroundings, extending all the way to Bulaq.

Authorities continue their efforts to ease congestion by directing citizens to alternative routes, recommending that they avoid traveling during peak hours whenever possible and rely on public transportation when necessary until traffic conditions stabilise on all main highways.

Tips for Drivers

The traffic authority advises drivers to plan their morning trips in advance and avoid congested routes as much as possible, while staying updated on traffic conditions through periodic reports and local media to choose the best routes. It also recommends following traffic police instructions and traffic lights to ensure everyone's safety and reduce waiting time in traffic jams.
