Cairo and Giza experienced severe traffic congestion and vehicle buildup during the morning peak hours today, following two car accidents on the Salah Salem axis. Traffic authorities deployed additional patrols and directed drivers toward alternative routes to ease congestion and ensure road safety.

Details of the Two Accidents on Salah Salem

The first accident occurred in front of the Exhibition Grounds, on the direction from the Al-Rahman Al-Rahim Mosque toward Nuzha, Sheraton, and the airport. Traffic officers advise drivers coming from Salah Salem to take Ferdous Bridge, then Al-Sikka Al-Baida Street, and proceed to Al-Nasr Axis. The second accident took place in front of the Military Academy, on the direction from Joseph Tito heading to Tiran Bridge. Authorities recommend drivers coming from Nuzha and Joseph Tito to use Sheraton housing, Abdel Hamid Badawi Street, or the Heliopolis districts as alternatives.

Congestion Spreads to Downtown and Key Axes

The congestion was not limited to Salah Salem. Downtown Cairo, the Azhar Tunnel, and the Autostrad Axis saw similar heavy traffic in both directions — from Helwan to Maadi and Al-Qalaa, and from Maadi to 15 May and Bayn Al-Jabalayn — largely due to heavy trucks. The Abbas Al-Akkad Axis also experienced slowdowns and heavy vehicle buildup. On the Ring Road, 26 July Axis, and October Bridge, high traffic volumes and congestion were reported.

Recommended Alternative Routes

In Cairo, traffic authorities recommend using the Nile Corniche as an alternative to the Autostrad Axis, and Al-Azhar Street as a substitute for the Azhar Tunnel. Slow traffic was observed in Heliopolis, Maadi, and Al-Manyal, while high traffic volumes plagued Qasr Al-Aini, downtown areas, and the Azhar Tunnel. The Nile Corniche toward Maspero and Al-Mo'assasa also saw heavy congestion, whereas the Tayaran Axis maintained normal traffic flow.

Traffic Situation in Giza and 6 October City

In Giza, districts such as Al-Agoza and Mohandessin experienced scattered traffic density due to high vehicle movement. Moderate congestion was reported on the Haram and Remaya axes, while Sof Al-Laban, Faisal, Al-Tawabeq, Giza Square, Sudan Street, and Bayn Al-Sarayat saw vehicle buildup. In 6 October City, moderate congestion was the norm across most areas, except for the central axis, which recorded high traffic density.

Traffic officers continue to manage vehicle flow and provide guidance to drivers, urging them to use alternate routes to avoid delays and congestion.
