Auto Division: Current Price Cuts Go Against Market Trends, Now Is the Best Time to Buy
The Auto Division confirmed that current discounts on over 10 cars exceeding EGP 300,000 aim to stimulate the market despite difficult conditions. A board member advised consumers that this period is ideal for purchasing before demand returns. Sales growth reached 35% in Q2 2026 versus 45% in Q1.
Montasser Zaytoun, board member of the Auto Division at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, revealed that recent price reductions announced by car manufacturers represent an unexpected twist. The discounts covered more than 10 vehicles with total value exceeding EGP 300,000. He emphasized that this step aims to stimulate sales and revitalize the market, not because current conditions support lower prices.
Why Are Dealers Cutting Prices Despite Difficult Conditions?
Dealers are forced to reduce prices to maintain competitiveness and clear inventory of certain models. The market faces major challenges, including difficult shipping movements and significantly higher costs, alongside a dollar exchange rate that hasn't dropped enough to lower import expenses.
The natural direction for prices in this climate is upward, not downward. The current period therefore represents a rare opportunity for Egyptian consumers, especially with genuine competition among companies to revive the market.
Is This the Best Time to Buy a Car?
Zaytoun believes the current period might be one of the best times to purchase a car, thanks to ongoing discounts and competition between companies. He warned, however, that if market activity returns and demand suddenly outstrips supply, prices could climb again.
Car Sales Growth Rates in Egypt
According to the latest reports from AMIC (Automotive Market Information Council), car sales growth reached approximately 35% in Q2 2026, compared to 45% in Q1. The slowdown in Q2 pulled down the overall growth rate.
The decline from expected levels is attributed to the entry of many new car brands into the Egyptian market for the first time, along with diverse models differing in categories, types, and equipment. These new vehicles boast advanced capabilities and technologies, intensifying competition, especially when comparing feature levels and tech against current prices offered to consumers.
