AMIC: Locally Assembled Car Sales Grow 18.9% in First 7 Months of 2026
Egypt's locally assembled vehicle sales reached 62,794 units in the first seven months of 2026, up 18.9% year-on-year, according to AMIC. Imported passenger car sales grew even faster at 44.9%, hitting 54,075 units compared to 37,307 in 2025. The data highlights strong domestic demand with imports significantly outpacing local assembly growth.
Egypt's locally assembled vehicle sales hit 62,794 units in the first seven months of 2026, marking an 18.9% jump from the same period last year. The figure comes from the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC), which tracks new car movement across the country.
Imported Passenger Cars Outpace Local Assembly
Imported passenger car sales surged 44.9% to 54,075 units, up from 37,307 in the same stretch of 2025. That growth rate more than doubles the local assembly figure.
Why the gap? Egyptian buyers are gravitating toward a wider range of imported models, especially in the compact and crossover segments. Toyota and Hyundai benefit from established dealer networks and brand loyalty that keep import volumes climbing.
What's Happening Inside Local Factories?
62,794 locally assembled units over seven months translates to roughly 9,000 vehicles per month. Nissan and Kia remain among the key players running assembly lines in Egypt, though both face pressure from imported parts costs.
Local assembly is a long-term bet. Operational costs and imported components weigh on margins, yet domestic demand gives factories reason to keep expanding.
Outlook for the Final Quarter
If the current pace holds, total locally assembled sales could exceed 107,000 units by year-end 2026. The Egyptian market stays sensitive to currency swings and import regulations, two factors that will shape performance through December.
