4 Killed, 21 Injured in Horrific Crash on Benha Freeway; Compensation Process Underway

The Egyptian Compulsory Vehicle Insurance Pool announced the initiation of necessary procedures to verify the insurance coverage of the two vehicles involved in the accident on the Benha–Shobra El-Kheima Freeway in Qalyubia Governorate. This step paves the way for disbursing due compensations to the families of the deceased and the injured once all required legal and medical documents are completed. The move reflects the Pool's commitment to its legal obligations toward road accident victims.

Accident Details and Casualty Toll

In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, 2026, the Pool confirmed it is closely following the developments of the accident, which occurred after two microbuses collided on the road heading toward Cairo. According to preliminary information received by the Pool, the crash resulted in 4 deaths and 21 injuries. Initial reports indicate that a driver lost control of one vehicle, causing it to veer off and crash into another microbus, after which one of the vehicles fell from an elevated section of the road. Earlier media reports had noted that the death toll rose to 4 from an initial count of 2, while the injured were transported to several hospitals for necessary medical treatment.

Insurance Verification and Compensation Settlement

The Pool confirmed it has begun gathering information related to the compulsory insurance policies of the vehicle or vehicles involved in the accident to ensure the validity of their insurance coverage. It added that the procedures for settling and disbursing compensation for deaths and injuries will commence immediately upon receiving the accident documents and after the Public Prosecution, which is conducting the investigation, completes the legal classification and description of the incident. The Pool is responsible for disbursing compensations to road accident victims covered under compulsory insurance policies, based on the type of damage and the legally prescribed coverage limits.

The compulsory insurance policy provides for a compensation payment of 100,000 Egyptian pounds for each death case, as well as cases of permanent total disability, in accordance with the Unified Insurance Law No. 155 of 2024. Compensation for injuries is determined based on the disability percentage assessed by the competent medical authorities, varying from case to case depending on the disability ratio confirmed in medical reports and the decisions of the medical committee, all in line with the regulations and legal provisions governing compulsory vehicle insurance.

Ibrahim Labib, the Executive Director of the Egyptian Compulsory Vehicle Insurance Pool, assigned headquarters and branch officials to directly contact the families of the deceased and the injured to provide necessary support and facilitate the immediate disbursement of compensations, as part of efforts to alleviate their burdens during this difficult time.
