New numbers tell a fresh story. Official data from Egypt's compulsory vehicle insurance pool revealed a year-on-year growth of 6.1% in newly licensed passenger cars during July. The increase signals steady consumer appetite for new vehicles despite shifting market conditions.

Breaking Down July's Registration Figures

Total new passenger cars licensed last month reached approximately 22,500 units, compared to 21,200 during the same month a year earlier. The gap is clear — a rise of about 1,300 vehicles in just one month. That growth reflects a relatively healthy pulse in the automotive sector, driven by new model launches and a wider range of choices for Egyptian buyers.

Clear Dominance of 2027 Models

2027 model cars captured the largest share of new licenses during July, totaling 10,261 units. Following closely were 2026 models with 9,577 vehicles, while 2025 models came third with only 1,199 units. The numbers show a market moving decisively toward the newest generations, with older year models still present but in far smaller numbers. 2024 models ranked fourth with 780 cars, and 2023 models fifth with 636 units.

This ranking also mirrors how automakers time their new launches. Buyers clearly prefer the freshest model year, even when the equipment differences seem minor. The official figures don't break down by trim level or engine type, but the overall direction is unmistakable in the data available.

Fierce Battle for the Top Spot

MG leads the pack with 1,889 licensed cars during July. Chinese automaker Chery comes second with 1,646 units, and Korean giant Hyundai is third with 1,572 vehicles. The real surprise sits in fourth place — Nissan with 1,499 cars, having previously topped the list in earlier periods, now slips down. Jetour follows in fifth with 1,458 units, cementing its place among the top five with noticeable strength.

Intense Competition in the Mid-Field

Soueast claimed sixth place with 1,209 cars, while Kia took seventh with 1,040 vehicles. Toyota lands eighth with just 915 units. The absence of premium European brands from the top ranks underscores the market's tilt toward value-driven and Chinese tech offerings. Mercedes-Benz holds ninth place with 671 cars — a respectable figure for a brand in that price segment. Chevrolet rounds out the top ten with 661 licensed vehicles.

These official stats don't include any pricing details or fuel type breakdown per brand, but the big picture is clear enough. Chinese brands climbing the ranks signals a changing order where legacy Japanese and Korean names no longer dominate by default. All this points to an Egyptian auto market entering a new, more competitive chapter — one where every manufacturer has to fight harder for a slice of this growing pie.
