Kian Egypt, the exclusive local distributor of the Czech brand Skoda in Egypt, has announced a recall campaign covering several models built between 2010 and 2017. The inspection and replacement of certain airbag components will be carried out free of charge as part of a global recall program linked to Takata airbags.

The company stated on its official Facebook page: "If your Skoda vehicle was manufactured between 2010 and 2017, the free inspection and replacement of the airbag cover within the Takata recall program is necessary." This action reflects the company's commitment to customer safety in the Egyptian market.

How to Check if Your Car Is Affected

Owners of vehicles included in the campaign can verify their car's status by visiting the official Skoda website and entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This 17-character alphanumeric code is located on the windshield, and customers can also contact the hotline at 19112 to book an inspection appointment.

Any defect in the airbag components could pose a significant risk to the safety of both driver and passengers. The greatest danger emerges when a vehicle is involved in an accident that requires the airbag to deploy.

The Root of the Problem: Gas Generators

The affected vehicles are equipped with gas generators manufactured by Takata, which have been proven to contain defects that worsen over time. The problem is exacerbated particularly when vehicles are exposed to certain climatic conditions, such as high temperatures and humidity.

These components were installed in a number of Skoda vehicles produced between 2012 and 2018. Kian Egypt is now working to identify the affected vehicles and replace the faulty components completely free of charge.

Should the airbag deploy during an accident, the defect in the gas generator can cause an excessive pressure buildup. This buildup may lead to the generator exploding and sending metal fragments flying into the passenger cabin, potentially causing serious injuries to the driver and passengers — and in some cases, it could even result in death.

Affected vehicle owners must contact the company immediately to schedule an inspection and repair appointment. The priority here is the safety of everyone who drives or rides in these vehicles.
