Siemens New Factory Boosts Egypt's EV Manufacturing Localization
Siemens opened its first integrated factory in Egypt, dedicated to producing electrical distribution panels and components along with automation and control solutions. The project is expected to transform engineering and electronics industries while directly supporting the localization of electric vehicle manufacturing. The impact is huge.
High-Level Inauguration
The inauguration was attended by Engineer Khaled Hashim, Minister of Industry, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. German Ambassador to Egypt Jürgen Schulz, alongside Siemens executives and state officials. Hashim described the factory as a strategic addition to Egypt's industrial sector, reflecting global companies' confidence in the local investment climate. The plant strengthens Egypt's position as a regional manufacturing and export hub, leveraging its advanced infrastructure, geographical location. Trade agreements with various markets.
Direct Boost for the Automotive Sector
This move carries particular significance for the automotive industry, especially electric vehicles that rely on smart operating systems, industrial automation, control panels, and energy management solutions. The new factory will locally supply part of these needs, reducing import dependency and strengthening local supply chains for manufacturers. Hashim noted that the factory will produce advanced solutions including protection, control, communication. Digital application systems—technologies that have become essential in modern automotive plants.
Technology and Local Manufacturing
The project embodies the state's vision of localizing technology and deepening domestic manufacturing, aligning with the new industrial strategy targeting industrial exports of $100 billion by 2030. The facility will help develop the automotive feeder industries through technology transfer, Egyptian workforce training, and increasing the local content ratio.
