Nour El-Din Reveals Local Manufacturing Plans and Support for Industry Localization

Engineer Nour El-Din, Chairman of the Board of Directors of El-Sharif Company, the exclusive distributor of the Geely brand, revealed the company's intention to study entering local manufacturing in the coming period. He affirmed full support for the state's strategy aimed at localizing the automotive industry and enhancing export opportunities, noting that this step would help reduce production costs and increase the competitiveness of local products in regional and global markets.

El-Din's statements came during a panel discussion titled "How Commercial Vehicle Distributors Keep Pace with Evolving Industry Technology and Diverse Customer Needs," held as part of the activities of the Al-Ahram Commercial Vehicles Exhibition 2026. The session was moderated by journalist Hisham El-Zeini, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Ahram Auto, and featured an extensive discussion on the future of the commercial transport sector in Egypt.

Charging Infrastructure and the Challenges of EV Adoption

El-Din explained that expanding the use of electric vehicles is directly linked to developing the charging station infrastructure, noting that establishing these stations requires significant investments and specialized technical equipment. He added that current fast-charging stations require approximately 4 to 6 hours to complete a full charge, expressing hope for an expansion in the number of advanced charging stations in the near future to facilitate the use of electric vehicles and boost their spread in the Egyptian market.

El-Din concluded by emphasizing that the company is currently studying several collaboration models with global companies specialized in fast-charging technology, aiming to provide integrated solutions that support the transition to clean transportation. He pointed out that the success of this strategy largely depends on joint efforts between the public and private sectors to provide the necessary infrastructure.
