Nissan Egypt has officially announced the discontinuation of Nissan Sentra production in the Egyptian market in the coming period, without specifying an exact end date. The decision is part of the company's broader strategy to modernize its local assembly line in line with global automotive industry trends and regional market demands.

Reasons Behind the Sentra Phase-Out

Mohamed Abdel Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Egypt and Nissan Africa, confirmed that the decision to stop manufacturing the Sentra followed a comprehensive study of the local and neighboring markets. He emphasized that the move aims to introduce new locally assembled models that can be exported, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian-made vehicles in the region.

What Comes Next for Local Production

Abdel Samad revealed that Nissan is working on manufacturing another vehicle to replace the Sentra on the local production line. Going forward, the company's Egyptian-made lineup will include the Nissan Sunny and Magnite, alongside a third yet-to-be-announced model. The Sunny remains Nissan's best-selling car in Egypt, still produced in an older generation, and continues to achieve strong sales while also being exported to international markets.

Egypt as Nissan's Export Hub for Africa

The executive confirmed that the Nissan Egypt plant will serve as a primary export base for vehicles heading to African countries. This strategy is already in motion with the production of the Nissan Magnite, which features 55% local content, making it eligible for direct export to African markets with reduced trade barriers.

Notably, the Nissan Sunny continues to dominate the Egyptian sales charts, and the company plans to keep producing it for the foreseeable future due to strong domestic and export demand. The replacement model for the Sentra is expected to be unveiled in the coming months, completing Nissan's three-model local production triangle in Egypt.
