Mustafa Abu Ghali, Chairman of the Board of the Abu Ghali Motors Group, confirmed that double cab pickup trucks have become one of the most prominent vehicle categories witnessing increasing interest in the Egyptian market. This trend was clearly reflected during the third edition of the Al-Ahram Commercial Vehicles Exhibition 2026, which saw strong participation from various companies and brands in this segment.

Revealing the Secret Behind the Strong Presence of Double Cab Vehicles

Abu Ghali's statements came on the sidelines of the second panel discussion titled “How Commercial Vehicle Agents Keep Pace with Evolving Manufacturing Technology and Diverse Customer Uses,” moderated by journalist Hisham El-Ziny, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Ahram Auto, with the attendance of top leaders in Egypt's automotive industry.

Abu Ghali explained that competition in the double cab segment has increased significantly this year, after the group launched the “Sun Storm” model last year. He noted that the diversity of available options ultimately benefits customers by providing more alternatives and competitive prices.

Why Do Contractors Favor Double Cab Pickups?

Abu Ghali added that the company offers vehicles at competitive prices, pointing out that the double cab customer is typically a contractor, as it represents the spirit of every contractor due to its ability to accommodate both passengers and goods. He also noted that the state's direction toward agricultural reclamation has contributed to the growing demand for double cab vehicles.

He further revealed that the group is moving toward a qualitative leap in this sector by working on launching the first fully electric double cab vehicle dedicated to transporting people and goods, in cooperation with Healy Auto Group. He described this step as a “real revolution” in the automotive industry, especially with a focus on tourist areas such as Sharm El-Sheikh, which adopt sustainable transport solutions.

Strong Demand Brings Double Cab Back to the Forefront

Abu Ghali pointed out that demand for double cab vehicles is witnessing a notable rise recently, explaining that this category faced major challenges since 2010 after being customs-classified as passenger cars, which led to customs duties jumping from around 40% to 135%.

He clarified that this decision caused significant price hikes for double cab vehicles, with some models reaching nearly 5 million Egyptian pounds, limiting their spread for a period.

Sun Storm Benefits from Customs Exemption

Abu Ghali noted that recent customs exemptions have contributed to the strong return of demand for this category, enabling the group to offer the Sun Storm model at competitive prices and restore sales momentum in this vital segment.
