Mitsubishi has sparked excitement among enthusiasts by hinting at the potential revival of some of its most iconic discontinued models, most notably the Lancer Evolution. During a Q&A session at the company's 57th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, executives specifically mentioned three sedan models: the Lancer Evolution, Diamante, and Galant. As for the Eclipse, it has already made a comeback, albeit in the form of the Eclipse Cross SUV.

Mitsubishi CEO Expresses Hope for Evo's Return

Mitsubishi CEO Takao Kishiura expressed his hope that the Lancer Evolution would one day return to the market, despite the absence of concrete plans to revive it as a redesigned sports sedan based on an existing platform. Kishiura acknowledged that the company is currently not in a position to resurrect one of its most famous nameplates, but he remains optimistic that senior management will eventually feel comfortable enough to bring the Evo name back to life.

Mitsubishi's Precious Treasures

During his speech at the annual general meeting, Kishiura described models like the Lancer Evolution, Diamante, and Galant as being of great importance to the company, calling them precious treasures. He stated: "Although there are no specific plans to launch these models at this time, we aim to build a company capable of bringing these wonderful cars back to market in the future to meet your expectations. I will lead these efforts, and I would be grateful for the continued support of our shareholders."

Potential Return to Rally Racing

Should the Lancer Evolution make a production comeback, Kishiura also expressed a desire to form a factory-backed team to compete in the World Rally Championship with the new Lancer Evo. However, given the current situation, this remains merely a wish. While Mitsubishi has not yet committed to producing a new Evo, the recent statements clearly indicate a strong internal desire to revive this high-performance sports car in the future, potentially paving the way for the legendary model's ultimate return.
