Maxus Set to Enter Egyptian Market with SUVs and Electric Vans
Chinese automaker Maxus, a subsidiary of the SAIC Motor group, is preparing to enter the Egyptian market in the near future. Advanced negotiations are currently underway to select a local dealer and establish an official launch plan for the brand in the country. The company, which originated from the British LDV brand, has a strong presence in Australia and South Africa, specializing in the production of SUVs, MPVs, commercial vans, and pickup trucks.
Starting with the V80 Van and Expanding into Arab Markets
Maxus introduced its first vehicle, the V80 van, at the Shanghai International Auto Show in 2011, with sales beginning in Australia the following year. The brand made its debut in Arab markets in Saudi Arabia in 2013, and has since expanded to other regional markets. The company is known for its growing focus on electric vehicles, offering popular models such as the eTerron 9 electric pickup and the Mifa 9 passenger van.
Maxus SUV and Crossover Lineup
Maxus offers a range of SUVs and crossovers including the D60 and the larger D90. These vehicles are available with diesel engines and hybrid systems, which may not be feasible for the Egyptian market, but they are expected to be offered with petrol and hybrid powertrains instead. This segment is highly competitive locally, especially with the increasing demand for sport utility vehicles.
The company's MPV lineup includes the fully electric luxury Mifa 9, the Mifa 7, as well as more practical models like the G10 and G50. Additional offerings in this category include the G70, G90, and RG10, providing a diverse portfolio that caters to various customer needs.
Pickup Trucks and Commercial Vans
In the pickup segment, Maxus offers the T60, T70, and T90, alongside commercial vans such as the Deliver and the electric eDeliver. These models are known for their competitive pricing and extensive features, which have helped them gain acceptance in various global markets. The company is currently working on selecting the right dealer in Egypt and finalizing the launch plan for each vehicle category to meet local market expectations.
Maxus's entry into the Egyptian market is part of the broader expansion of Chinese automotive brands in the region, offering competitive prices and modern technologies, particularly in the electric and hybrid vehicle sectors. This expansion is expected to add new options for consumers in Egypt in the coming period.
