The Suez Canal Economic Zone has marked a significant milestone in localizing the tire manufacturing industry in Egypt with the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new Long March Tires plant. The Chinese manufacturing giant will establish the facility within the Teda-Egypt industrial developer area in the Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone, backed by a substantial investment of $190 million, equivalent to approximately 9.5 billion Egyptian Pounds.

This strategic project aligns with the broader vision of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority to attract high-value-added industrial investments, specifically targeting the transportation, automotive, and feeder manufacturing sectors to bolster the national industrial ecosystem.

Record Investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone

Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority, highlighted the region's growing appeal to global investors. He revealed that the authority has successfully attracted $16 billion in investments over the past four years, with more than $7 billion secured during the 2025/2026 fiscal year alone. This surge reflects increasing confidence in the investment climate and the robust infrastructure across the industrial areas and ports.

El-Din emphasized that the Long March project represents a qualitative addition to the industrial base within the economic zone, particularly in the specialized field of tire manufacturing, reinforcing Egypt's position as a strategic hub for industrial expansion.

Production Capacity and Employment Opportunities

Spanning an expansive area of 200,000 square meters, the new Long March facility is designed to create approximately 1,500 direct job opportunities and will be executed in two distinct phases. The first phase targets an annual production capacity of 600,000 Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) tires.

Upon the completion of the second phase, the plant's total output will surge to 1 million Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) tires annually, alongside an additional 4.5 million Passenger Car Radial (PCR) tires per year. This massive production capacity is set to satisfy the growing demands of the local automotive market while strongly supporting export initiatives to regional and international markets.
