Kia Records Global Sales of 1.63 Million Vehicles in First Half of 2025
Kia has announced global sales of 1.63 million vehicles during the first half of the current year, up from 1.58 million vehicles recorded in the same period last year, marking a 3.2% increase. According to data from Yonhap News Agency, this growth was primarily driven by rising demand for eco-friendly vehicles, which include electric and hybrid models.
Expansion Plans to Boost U.S. Market Sales
To sustain this momentum and address market challenges, Kia announced plans to expand production of its mid-size SUV, the Telluride, which is specifically tailored for the U.S. market, during the second half of the year. The Telluride remains one of Kia's best-selling models in the United States, and this production increase reflects the company's commitment to meeting the growing demand for SUVs in one of the world's largest automotive markets.
New Model Introductions in the United States
In addition, Kia plans to launch the hybrid Sportage SUV, which will be manufactured in the United States, later this year. The company also intends to introduce the EV3 electric vehicle, produced in Mexico, to further expand its electric lineup in the American market. These moves come at a time of intensifying competition in the electric vehicle segment, especially from Chinese brands.
Strong Financial Performance Despite Geopolitical Risks
Despite U.S. tariffs and geopolitical uncertainties impacting the global automotive industry, Kia reported a 2.6% increase in its net profit for the second quarter compared to the same period last year. This financial performance underscores the company's ability to navigate challenging economic conditions while maintaining profitability.
Kia stated that it achieved these results by offering vehicles at competitive prices and providing incentives in both its domestic Korean market and Western European markets. This strategy is designed to counter the fierce competition posed by Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, which are rapidly expanding their global footprint. Kia's plans highlight its commitment to strengthening its position as a key player in the global automotive sector by combining production expansion with innovation in eco-friendly vehicles.
