New data reveals that Hyundai Motor Group has captured 11.8% of the U.S. automotive market during the first four months of this year, fueled by robust sales of eco-friendly vehicles, particularly hybrid models.

According to data from global market research firm Omdia, the combined market share of Hyundai Motor and Kia rose by one percentage point year-on-year to 11.8% in the January–April period, securing the group the fourth position behind General Motors, Toyota, and Ford Motor.

Combined sales for the two brands increased by 1.3% during the same period, reaching 589,936 units. Last year, the group achieved a record market share of 11.3% in the U.S., and industry observers are optimistic that its share may surpass the 12% threshold this year.

Automotive analysts noted that Hyundai Motor Group expanded its market share thanks to strong sales of hybrids and other eco-friendly models, amid declining demand for conventional vehicles following the rise in global oil prices.

Combined hybrid sales for Hyundai and Kia in the first quarter of this year totaled 97,627 units, a 53.2% increase compared to the same period last year. In May, sales surged 74.4% year-on-year to 43,392 units, marking the highest monthly figure ever recorded by the group.
