GM Partners with Lockheed Martin in New Defense Manufacturing Deal

General Motors announced a new partnership with Lockheed Martin, a leading defense contractor, to expand manufacturing capabilities and boost production capacity in the defense sector. The move comes as the country ramps up output of defense spare parts.

According to Bruce Brown, GM's vice president of strategy for the defense division, the agreement was facilitated by the U.S. Department of Defense and will focus primarily on munitions. In a call with reporters, Brown said: "What makes this moment so critical is that the country needs more than just cutting-edge technology. It also needs the ability to manufacture, scale, and deliver reliably. That's where GM comes in. Across the company, we have extensive expertise in advanced engineering, digital development, supply chain management, and large-scale manufacturing."

Frank St. John, Lockheed Martin's chief operating officer, noted that it is too early to specify which projects the companies will pursue with the defense division. Executives from both firms confirmed that the collaboration will enable further growth as the nation intensifies production of defense components.

St. John added: "Together, we will explore opportunities in three key areas: improving production readiness and scalable manufacturing environments, strengthening supply chains and identifying ways to increase resilience, and applying advanced manufacturing and design methods that can help improve efficiency and accelerate delivery."
