Geely's Global Delegation Visits Assembly Plant in Egypt Marking 70 Years of Partnership

Automobility Group, the official distributor of Geely in Egypt, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Chinese automaker along with a group of specialized journalists. The visit centered on inspecting the assembly lines at the factory in 6th of October City, where the Emgrand and Coolray models are currently being assembled for the local market.

70 Years of Egypt-China Diplomatic Relations

The timing carries more weight than a routine factory tour. The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Cairo and Beijing, established back in 1956. Egypt was the first Arab and African nation to forge official relations with China — a move that laid the groundwork for a deepening economic partnership.

That number matters. Seven decades of cooperation have evolved far beyond traditional import and trade, reaching the stage of joint manufacturing and technology transfer on Egyptian soil.

From Trade to Manufacturing and Export

Osman Abdel Moneim, Managing Director of Automobility Egypt, emphasized that relations between Egyptian and Chinese companies have undergone a fundamental shift. Cooperation is no longer about simple commercial deals; it has transformed into deep partnerships built on investment, localization, and the development of the local automotive industry centered around Geely assembly.

Results are already visible on the ground. Local assembly has boosted production capabilities and created a new pool of skilled workers ready to contribute to the sector. Officials confirm this is only the beginning of a larger roadmap.

Ambitions stretch well beyond the domestic market. Automobility views Egypt as a strategic manufacturing hub capable of exporting vehicles across the entire region in the coming years. The current phase lays the foundation for increased output, with plans to introduce new models and gradually expand export operations.

The visit signals growing mutual confidence in the Egyptian plant's ability to meet global quality benchmarks. The future of local manufacturing looks increasingly tied to the Far East — but this time from a position of production, not just consumption.
