GB Auto is set to officially unveil its newest dealership on August 18, bringing Chinese brand iCAR to the Egyptian market. The move signals the company's push into electric mobility, as it prepares to introduce its first model locally. Enthusiasts won't have to wait long — the same event will showcase the brand's debut vehicle.

iCAR V27: A Full-Size Contender

Leading the charge is the iCAR V27, a rugged SUV that borrows styling cues from heavyweights like Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover Defender. Measuring 4,909 mm in length, 1,976 mm in width. 1,894 mm in height, with a 2,910 mm wheelbase, it sits large on any road. While it's slightly shorter and narrower than the Defender 110, the V27 remains the biggest model in iCAR's current lineup.

Range-Extended Hybrid Powertrain

Under the hood, the V27 employs a range-extender setup — a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine paired with either one or two electric motors. The combustion unit doesn't drive the wheels; instead, it generates electricity to feed the motors. In dual-motor guise, output reaches 455 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, pushing the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.

Total range hits an impressive 1,200 km with a full tank and a fully charged 33 kWh battery pack. On pure electric power alone, the V27 covers 200 km before needing a recharge, based on China's CLTC test cycle. That cycle tends to be more optimistic than Europe's WLTP standard, so real-world figures may vary.

Implications for Egypt's EV Market

By adding iCAR to its portfolio, GB Auto is betting on the growing appetite for electric vehicles in Egypt. The V27's blend of SUV practicality, hybrid flexibility. Long-range capability could appeal to local buyers seeking an alternative to traditional petrol models. Pricing and availability details are expected to be announced during the launch event. That the market is watching closely.
