ESI Acquires Omoda & Jaecoo Dealership in Egypt Officially
ESI Investment Company (Ez Al Arab El Sewedy) has successfully secured the dealership rights for Chery's two new brands, Omoda and Jaecoo, after lengthy negotiations. This strategic move adds two fresh automotive brands to ESI's portfolio in the Egyptian market, marking a significant step in reshaping competition within the local automotive sector and strengthening the group's position as a key industry player.
Deal Details and Strategic Objectives
The acquisition deal was finalized following an extended period of anticipation and fierce competition within Egypt's automotive circles, opening a new chapter for Chinese brand expansion in the local market. ESI's role extends beyond mere distribution and marketing to include ambitious local assembly plans through the group's own manufacturing facilities, enhancing its production and investment capabilities. The official announcement of the deal is expected in the coming days, with immediate commencement of importing and marketing vehicles from both brands, alongside after-sales services, maintenance, and spare parts supply, aiming to build a robust customer support network.
Who Owns Omoda and Jaecoo?
Both Omoda and Jaecoo brands belong to Chery International, one of China's largest automobile manufacturers. The brands were launched globally as fully independent entities, primarily targeting export markets outside China. Chery aims through these brands to offer smart and sustainable mobility concepts tailored for the younger generation and emerging elites. Both brands have achieved record-breaking expansion across more than 50 countries, surpassing 600,000 exported units within just two years. Chery is leveraging Omoda and Jaecoo to broaden its global reach by offering gasoline, electric, and hybrid vehicles, with a strong focus on intelligent technologies and advanced driver-assistance systems.
Omoda Brand: Modern Design and Advanced Technology
Founded in 2022, Omoda specializes in crossover SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles featuring bold futuristic designs. The brand targets younger consumers and fashion enthusiasts with sustainable technology, guided by its "Art in Motion" design philosophy. The flagship model, Omoda C5, is the brand's most popular vehicle globally, a compact crossover with a sporty fastback appearance. It is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine producing 197 horsepower, paired with either a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) or a CVT, and comes equipped with an advanced suite of safety and driver-assistance systems. Omoda also offers the fully electric E5 variant, reinforcing the group's commitment to sustainable mobility.
With this strategic move, Chery enters the Egyptian market powerfully through two new brands, providing local consumers with wider choices in the modern vehicle segment featuring cutting-edge smart technologies and advanced driving systems. The local market eagerly awaits the official announcement of full deal details and the group's plans for the coming period, with expectations of intensified competition in Egypt's Chinese automotive sector.
