The Egyptian industrial scene has witnessed a significant development as three automotive companies operating in Egypt have submitted official requests to the Ministry of Industry to begin exporting their locally manufactured cars to foreign markets during the fourth quarter of 2026. This was reported by Bloomberg Asharq, highlighting Egypt's growing ambition to establish itself as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing. The companies aim to capitalize on trade agreements signed with several Arab and African nations to expand their reach beyond local borders.

Ambitious Export Targets for the First Phase

According to the report, the export process will be carried out in multiple phases, with the first phase targeting an export volume ranging between 10,000 and 30,000 cars during the first year. The companies plan to gradually increase export rates in the following years, aiming to reach approximately 100,000 cars by 2030. These figures reflect the companies' commitment to expanding their international footprint and contributing to Egypt's non-oil export growth strategy.

Nissan and General Motors Lead the Initiative

Among the three companies that have submitted export applications are Nissan Egypt and General Motors, along with a third company whose name has not yet been disclosed. Notably, Nissan was the only one among them that had previously exported cars regularly from Egypt, though export operations were temporarily halted last August. For General Motors and the third company, this marks their first-ever export application, targeting Arab and African markets as primary destinations for their products.

Rising Egyptian Automotive Exports

In a related context, Egypt witnessed a notable 15% increase in automotive and component exports during 2025, reaching a total value of $1.272 billion. This upward momentum continued from January to April 2026, with exports rising by 13% to a value of $435 million. These positive figures reinforce the government's efforts to support the local automotive industry and enhance its global competitiveness, paving the way for further investments in this vital sector.
