Military Production Ministry Eyes Tech Partnership with China's CEC to Localize Smart Car Electronics

Egypt's Ministry of Military Production is exploring a major industrial and technological partnership with China's CEC. The talks took place at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. If finalized, the deal could open new doors for localizing electric vehicle and smart car technologies in Egypt.

The meeting brought together Dr. Eng. Salah Soliman Gamblat, Minister of State for Military Production, and a CEC delegation led by Li Ligong, the company's chairman. Several ministry leaders and heads of affiliated units attended.

What Does This Mean for Egypt's EV Industry?

Electronics and software are no longer optional extras in modern vehicles. They're the backbone of every electric and connected car. Battery management systems, electronic control units, and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication — all fall within the scope of discussions.

The minister confirmed that talks covered digital technologies, radars, and advanced electronics to match the needs of affiliated companies and units. These fields feed directly into the Tesla and smart mobility sector.

Benha Electronics Factory at the Center

The ministry aims to leverage the industrial capabilities of Benha Electronics Industries «Military Factory 144». The factory already has production lines that could be upgraded to serve the automotive sector. Partnering with CEC could accelerate tech transfer to these lines.

Potential joint projects include cybersecurity and data protection systems — vital elements for any connected vehicle. Egypt currently imports most of these components. Local manufacturing would change the equation.

Egypt-China cooperation in this field isn't new. But the timing signals a push to turn agreements into actual production lines. Smart cars need a strong electronic infrastructure. That's exactly what the ministry is after.
