Egypt Localizes Smart Sunroof Manufacturing Through New Alliance
Egypt's automotive industry is taking a significant step toward deepening local manufacturing, moving beyond full vehicle assembly to include critical components and feeder industries that add real value. The latest development involves the localization of smart sunroof systems, a sophisticated component previously imported entirely.
Joint Manufacturing Agreement Between El-Khanagary and Delmar Automotive
This initiative stems from a collaboration between El-Khanagary for Automotive Feeding Industries and Delmar Automotive, a specialist in glass systems. Under the agreement, smart sunroof systems will be manufactured with over 75% local content, supplying both domestic car manufacturers and export markets.
Smart Sunroofs: Complex Systems with Advanced Technology
Electric smart sunroofs are among the most complex systems in modern vehicles due to the integration of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components. Delmar will supply specialized glass for the sunroofs, while El-Khanagary will produce the mechanical and electrical systems and motors, ensuring a high level of industrial integration.
Production Targets and Capacity Goals
The first phase of production is set to begin in the first quarter of 2027 with an annual capacity of 30,000 units. This is expected to increase to 150,000 units by 2028. A portion of the output will serve the local market, while the remainder will be exported, reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional hub for automotive component manufacturing.
