Amid rapid transformations across the global automotive industry, double-cab pickup vehicles emerged as one of the standout highlights of the third edition of the Commercial Vehicles Exhibition 2026, driven by rising demand from the construction, agriculture, and commercial transport sectors.

During an extensive panel discussion featuring senior automotive industry executives, participants shared new perspectives on the future of commercial vehicles in Egypt. Discussions also focused on local manufacturing expansion plans, the shift toward electric vehicles, and the development of EV charging infrastructure, reflecting the market’s growing move toward more advanced and reliable transportation solutions.

Hesham El-Zeiny: Understanding User Needs Is the Key Challenge

Hesham El-Zeiny stated that the transportation industry has undergone significant development over the past decades. He explained that transportation methods relied on horses around 130 years ago before transitioning to steam-powered engines and eventually to modern and electric vehicles, highlighting the rapid pace of evolution in the global automotive sector.

He added that the main challenge lies in understanding and effectively addressing the needs of different commercial vehicle users, particularly within the double-cab segment, which has attracted strong attention at the exhibition due to the diversity of customer requirements and usage patterns.

Mostafa Abu Ghali: First Fully Electric Double-Cab Model in Development

Engineer Mostafa Abu Ghali emphasized that double-cab vehicles have gained strong momentum among participating companies at the exhibition. He noted that the group entered this segment last year through the “Sun Storm” model, while the current year has seen intensified competition among manufacturers, creating broader choices for customers and strengthening market competitiveness.

He further revealed that the group is working on introducing the first fully electric double-cab vehicle designed for both passenger and cargo transport in cooperation with “Geely Auto Group.” According to Abu Ghali, the project represents an important step forward for the commercial vehicle sector, with a focus on several tourist destinations, particularly Sharm El Sheikh.

Abu Ghali also pointed out that demand for double-cab vehicles is currently experiencing noticeable growth. He explained that since 2010 these vehicles have been classified for customs purposes as passenger cars, resulting in customs duties increasing from 40% to 135%, which has directly impacted the market.
