Deputy Prime Minister Reviews SEWAGRIT Efforts to Localize Railway Manufacturing and Strengthen National Projects
Government Visit to SEWAGRIT and Focus on Industrial Localization
The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs conducted a field visit to the Egyptian Company for Pipes and Cement Products SEWAGRIT in Helwan, one of the leading national companies specializing in the production of railway sleepers, metro infrastructure components, and high-speed electric train systems. The visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to monitor the localization of strategic industries and deepen local manufacturing, which is considered a key pillar in supporting major national infrastructure projects. The move highlights the state’s focus on increasing reliance on domestic production and reducing imports to strengthen the national economy.
Inspection of Production Lines and Industrial Upgrades
During the tour, the Deputy Prime Minister inspected several production facilities within the company, including railway and metro sleeper factories, as well as the high-speed rail sleeper plant, which represents one of the company’s most advanced production developments. The visit also included the precast concrete pipes factory, which has been reactivated following extensive upgrades and efficiency improvements, in addition to the concrete fencing factory, which is considered one of the newest production lines dedicated to supporting large-scale infrastructure projects.
The tour also highlighted a range of newly developed products manufactured locally for the first time, including high-speed railway sleepers equipped with USP rubber pads, high-speed rail sleepers featuring Guard Rail systems, and modern concrete fencing solutions. These developments demonstrate the company’s growing industrial capabilities and its ability to meet the requirements of modern transportation projects while maintaining high international quality standards.
Localizing Railway Technology and Supporting National Infrastructure Projects
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that SEWAGRIT stands as one of the nation’s key industrial pillars, with extensive experience in supporting transportation and infrastructure projects. He stressed that the government places strong priority on deepening local manufacturing and increasing reliance on national industry as a fundamental driver for improving competitiveness and enhancing the added value of the economy.
He further noted that the current phase requires continuous development of production capacities within national companies, alongside expansion in supporting industries for railway and high-speed electric train projects. He also highlighted the importance of upgrading production lines, improving operational efficiency, and continuously modernizing industrial output to align with the evolving needs of national infrastructure initiatives and ensure sustainable industrial growth.
