Engineer Khaled Hashem, Egypt's Minister of Industry, held an extensive meeting with a delegation from the Chinese company "Jiangsu Changhong" for Smart Equipment, led by Dr. Qiu Yun Jie, Chairwoman of the company's board. The meeting focused on the company's plan to establish an advanced industrial complex in Egypt offering integrated solutions to the automotive sector. The session was attended by Engineer Mohamed Sami, Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs, Engineer Alaa Salah El-Din, Head of the Automotive Unit at the Ministry of Industry, along with several ministry officials.
Smart Industrial Complex with $20 Million Investment
The meeting reviewed the company's plan to establish an industrial complex in Egypt with investments totaling $20 million, relying on the latest smart manufacturing technologies. The project aims to provide comprehensive solutions for the automotive sector, including equipping production lines, supplying intelligent industrial software systems, and offering consulting services for factory planning and design according to the highest global standards. This step is part of broader efforts to attract global companies specialized in advanced manufacturing technology, helping build an integrated industrial ecosystem that strengthens Egypt's position as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing and export to external markets.
Transition from Assembly to Actual Manufacturing
Minister Hashem emphasized that the automotive sector and its feeder industries are among the state's top priorities during the current phase. He noted that the ministry is implementing an integrated strategy aimed at shifting from vehicle assembly to actual manufacturing, deepening the local component ratio, and increasing the added value of national industry. Hashem explained that the ministry is working to attract major global companies operating in the automotive industry, alongside firms specialized in advanced manufacturing technology, to support achieving this strategic transformation.
Technology Transfer and Building Egyptian Capabilities
The minister pointed out that the state's strategy is not limited to establishing productive projects but extends to transferring modern technology, building local capacities, and qualifying Egyptian personnel in industrial engineering, smart manufacturing, and digital transformation. He stressed that human capital is one of the most important pillars of sustainable industrial development. Hashem added that the Egyptian market possesses multiple investment-attracting factors, including a distinguished geographical location, recently developed infrastructure, and free trade agreements with Arab, African, and European markets, making it an ideal gateway for accessing regional markets.
It is worth noting that "Jiangsu Changhong" specializes in smart equipment and provides advanced industrial solutions to many global markets. This investment is expected to boost local automotive manufacturing, open new horizons for cooperation between Egypt and China in industrial technology, and enhance state efforts toward localizing industry and increasing industrial exports in the coming years.
