Egypt is intensifying its efforts to attract global investments aimed at localizing the automotive industry. In the latest development, the Chinese company Jiangsu Changhong Intelligent Equipment has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art industrial complex in Egypt with an investment of $20 million. The new project focuses on introducing cutting-edge smart manufacturing technologies to the Egyptian automotive sector, reflecting the growing interest of international companies in the local market.

Project Details and Strategic Goals

A meeting was held between Minister of Industry Eng. Khaled Hashim and a delegation from the Chinese company, led by board chairperson Dr. Qiu Yun Jie, to discuss the project plan. The industrial complex will rely on the latest smart manufacturing technologies, including the design and setup of production lines, provision of intelligent industrial software systems, and specialized consulting services for factory planning and design. The initiative aims to strengthen the industrial infrastructure for car manufacturers and component suppliers in the Egyptian market.

Supporting Industrial Localization Strategy

The Minister emphasized that the automotive sector and its feeder industries represent a key pillar of the state's industrial strategy. He stated that the ministry is accelerating the shift from assembly-based operations to full local manufacturing, with an increased local component ratio and enhanced value addition for the national industry. The ministry also targets attracting global companies in automotive manufacturing and advanced production technology to build an integrated industrial ecosystem capable of boosting local production and exports, solidifying Egypt's position as a regional automotive hub in the Middle East and Africa.

Hashim further noted that the ministry's plan goes beyond establishing new factories to include transferring modern technology, localizing smart manufacturing techniques, and training Egyptian cadres in industrial engineering, automation, and digital transformation. He explained that the Egyptian market offers an attractive investment environment thanks to its strategic location, developed infrastructure, and network of free trade agreements, providing locally manufactured products with wide access to regional and global markets.
