Industry Minister: Accreditation System Supports Egyptian Car Companies' Integration into Global Supply Chains

Engineer Khalid Hashem, Egypt's Minister of Industry, affirmed that developing the accreditation system is a key driver for enhancing the competitiveness of the automotive industry and its feeder industries in Egypt. This is achieved by ensuring product quality and raising the efficiency of testing laboratories and conformity assessment bodies. The minister explained that this system directly supports the integration of Egyptian companies into global supply chains and increases opportunities for exporting automotive components to international markets.

Accreditation as a Critical Tool for Enhancing Factory Competitiveness

The minister stated that accreditation has become a decisive factor in factories' ability to compete, especially as global markets tighten their requirements for quality, sustainability, and technical compliance. He noted that possessing a robust quality infrastructure not only boosts production efficiency but also enhances the confidence of global companies and investors in Egyptian industry. This was announced during the opening of the World Accreditation Day celebration, held under the theme "Innovation, Trust, and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation," attended by representatives from the European Union, the International Accreditation Forum, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), along with officials from the ministry and quality experts.

A Pivotal Role in Facilitating Exports and Reducing Costs

Hashem said the accreditation system plays a pivotal role in improving the quality of products and services, granting conformity assessment bodies international recognition according to global standards. He added that this contributes to facilitating the access of Egyptian exports to foreign markets, reducing compliance costs for industrial companies, and attracting more investments. The minister emphasized that celebrating World Accreditation Day reflects the growing importance of this system as a fundamental pillar supporting industry and trade.

He stressed that quality is no longer an option but has become a necessity for maintaining existing markets, expanding into new ones, and enhancing the reputation of Egyptian products globally. The minister pointed out that the updated industrial strategy aims to develop seven priority industrial sectors, along with strategic industries and feeder industries, focusing on deepening local manufacturing, increasing added value, and expanding the application of the circular economy and recycling. This, he said, strengthens the ability of Egyptian industry to integrate into global supply chains.

He confirmed that the strategy has paid special attention to developing the quality and accreditation system by localizing accredited laboratories and testing bodies, enabling manufacturers to meet export requirements for international markets. This represents an important factor in enhancing the competitiveness of the Egyptian automotive industry and opening new horizons for export.
