Abou Ghaly Motors Signs Deal to Assemble Geely NEV Cars in Egypt

Abou Ghaly Motors has signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with global automaker Geely and state-owned El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company to study local assembly of Geely new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Egypt. The agreement paves the way for establishing local assembly lines, strengthening the Chinese brand's presence in the Egyptian market while supporting the country's push toward localizing EV and hybrid production.

Project Details and Targeted Models

The initial roadmap includes studying the assembly of 4 Geely models locally, with the potential to expand the lineup in the future based on the company's evolving portfolio and the needs of the local and regional markets. A final decision on which models will be produced first hasn't been made yet, but discussions centered on the most in-demand electric and hybrid nameplates.

The project isn't limited to assembly alone, as it also explores export opportunities to neighboring markets. That export dimension gives the initiative stronger economic viability, particularly with the anticipated growth in NEV demand across the region.

Division of Responsibilities

Under the agreement, El Nasr Automotive will provide the necessary facilities and implement required modifications to production lines. Meanwhile, Abou Ghaly Motors will invest in equipping the plant, lead and follow up on the project in cooperation with Geely, alongside coordinating marketing, sales, after-sales service, and export files.

Geely's role is equally crucial, as it will supply technical support, production line modification plans, and assembly kits, in addition to contributing to localization strategy and qualifying local suppliers — while setting the quality standards required for the project. The visit that brought the three parties together included a tour to explore the group's capabilities and business ecosystem in Egypt.

Geely's Growth in Egypt

This agreement follows the significant growth Geely has achieved in the NEV segment in Egypt since launching through its authorized distributor Abou Ghaly Motors in May 2026. The numbers reflect a genuine shift in Egyptian consumer behavior toward more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles, which explains why global manufacturers are accelerating local assembly plans to cut costs and bring final prices down for buyers.
