EGP 700 million. That's the scale of government investment allocated to develop Rashid Port, one of Egypt's largest national projects now underway to boost ship maintenance and manufacturing. The initiative aims to create around 5,000 direct and indirect job opportunities — a major economic push for the region.

Officials Inspect Progress

Dr. Ahmed Rustom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, along with Dr. Jaqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, concluded their tour by inspecting the ongoing development works at the port. They were joined by Engineer Nehad Morsi, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Affairs, Heba Abdel Moneim, Assistant Minister for Human Development, and other ministry leaders, in addition to Major General Wael Hamza and Major General Khaled Raslan from the governorate.

The project spans 48,000 square meters and includes a modern utility network, new berths for receiving ships, specialized workshops for maintenance and repair. An integrated zone for maritime services and industries. Administrative and service facilities are also being built to operate the port according to the latest global standards. The work is split into two main phases.

Project Phases and Vision

The first phase covers ship painting workshops, worker rest areas, warehouses, port administration, engineering management, heavy equipment storage, a wholesale and retail fish-packaging building, electricity distribution, and tank buildings. The second phase adds a fish refrigeration building, an ice production plant, customs facilities, and a fishing net manufacturing plant — strengthening the maritime services system and boosting operational efficiency.

The minister emphasized that ports and logistics are among the most critical sectors supporting economic growth, noting that the ministry coordinates with various authorities to develop Egyptian ports and enhance their competitiveness — a move that positively impacts exports. He stressed that this project is a strategic pillar in the national plan for developing the historic city of Rashid, which reflects Egypt's regional diversity.

Beyond infrastructure, the project supports the fishing and logistics sectors, which is expected to drive local development across Beheira. Authorities continue to monitor implementation closely, with regular follow-ups to ensure adherence to technical standards and the approved timeline.
