Prime Minister: New Marina Boghaz Tunnel to Strengthen Connectivity and Support Year-Round North Coast Tourism

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inspected the New Marina Boghaz coastal road tunnel project during a tour of development and urban projects in Marina Tourism Center and New Alamein City. The project is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade transport infrastructure along Egypt's North Coast, improving connectivity between Marina districts while supporting smoother traffic movement and a more efficient road network that keeps pace with rapid urban and tourism expansion.

Improving Connectivity Across Marina

The New Marina Boghaz Tunnel is one of the key infrastructure projects designed to enhance the efficiency of the coastal area. It includes the construction of a water channel linking Marina's northern lakes with the southern New Marina lakes. The channel will extend approximately 650 meters in length and 16 meters in width, improving water circulation, supporting marine activities, increasing operational efficiency throughout the area, and enhancing the investment value of surrounding developments.

Construction Progress and Engineering Specifications

During the inspection, Engineer Ahmed Mostafa, Head of the Tourist Villages Authority, presented an update on the project's implementation stages. He explained that construction began in April 2025 and is expected to be fully completed by the end of the current year. The project relies on an advanced construction system that includes the installation of 655 reinforced concrete piles with a diameter of 1.5 meters and lengths ranging from 42 to 48 meters to ensure structural strength, stability, and compliance with approved safety and quality standards.

Supporting Transport Infrastructure and Tourism Growth

The development of infrastructure in Marina and New Alamein plays an important role in improving vehicle movement along the North Coast road network, particularly as tourism and investment activity continue to grow. The new infrastructure is intended to provide a more efficient transport network capable of handling increasing traffic volumes while strengthening links between tourism destinations, service areas, and major transport corridors.

The project also forms part of the broader North Coast development strategy by improving accessibility to recreational and tourism destinations and strengthening integration between existing roads and newly developed transport corridors. These efforts support the state's plan to transform the region into a fully integrated urban and tourism destination operating throughout the year rather than only during the summer season. The tour also included a presentation of an artificial intelligence-generated demonstration showing the movement of launches and boats through the tunnel after it becomes operational, in addition to an inspection of the tunnel lining works and the current pace of construction.
