Local Assembly Drives 30.7% Growth in Egypt Truck Sales During First 7 Months

Egypt's truck sales jumped 30.7% in the first seven months of the year, reaching 19,280 units compared to 14,754 in the same period last year. This sharp increase highlights a recovering commercial vehicle sector, driven largely by rising demand for locally assembled vehicles.

Locally Assembled Trucks Climb 23.6%

According to a report by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC), sales of locally assembled trucks rose 23.6% to 16,557 units during the same period, up from 13,393 units. This growth confirms that local manufacturing has become the primary engine of Egypt's truck market, with increasing support from brands like Chevrolet and Mitsubishi that produce commercial vehicles locally.

Imported Trucks Double by 100%

Meanwhile, imported truck sales surged 100% to 2,723 units, up from 1,361 units in the comparable period. This sharp rise reflects a revival in imports of light and medium trucks, especially from brands like Isuzu, despite economic challenges. Demand for imported trucks has been bolstered by infrastructure projects and urban expansion.

Market Outlook for the Final Quarter

The numbers suggest Egypt's truck market is on an upward trajectory, with growth expected to continue through year-end. But prices for both local and imported trucks remain vulnerable to exchange rate fluctuations. That could impact sales momentum in the coming months. The commercial transport sector is benefiting from increased government spending on projects, positively reflecting on sales of Mitsubishi and other leading brands.
