Mechanical Expert Reveals 10 Hidden Factors That Gradually Destroy Car Parts
Many car drivers believe that breakdowns occur suddenly and that the failed part is the sole cause of the problem. However, reality paints a different picture, as most failures originate from hidden factors that accumulate gradually, causing component wear and reducing their lifespan before clear symptoms of damage appear.
The Importance of Preventive Maintenance in Protecting Car Components
Technical expertise confirms that early identification and handling of these factors not only preserves vehicle efficiency but also saves significant sums that might otherwise be spent on repairs preventable through routine maintenance. In this context, Engineer Ayman Said, a specialized mechanical expert, explained that each car component has a primary factor accelerating its wear if not addressed in time.
The Ten Destructive Factors Affecting Car Parts
The expert pointed out that spark plugs are affected by carbon deposit buildup, which weakens the spark strength and negatively impacts fuel combustion efficiency and engine performance. The turbocharger is among the most sensitive components to lubrication deficiency, as poor oil flow to its internal bearings leads to rapid wear and could result in complete turbocharger failure.
He clarified that the battery loses part of its efficiency due to sulfate accumulation on the terminals, reducing its energy storage capacity and affecting its performance. The radiator also suffers from rust and internal corrosion over time, negatively impacting the cooling system's efficiency and increasing the likelihood of engine overheating. Fuel injectors are directly affected by fuel quality, as contaminated fuel blocks the fine spray openings, which impacts engine responsiveness and fuel consumption.
The alternator (Alternator) may experience internal wear or short circuits due to water or moisture ingress. Meanwhile, corrosion damages the internal impeller and seals in the water pump, reducing its efficiency in circulating coolant. The engineer added that the catalytic converter can be damaged by unburned fuel reaching it, causing a severe temperature rise. The oxygen sensor's (O₂) accuracy also declines due to accumulation of oil residue, coolant, or certain chemical additives on its surface.
He also noted that timing belts and accessory belts are rapidly affected by oil leaks, as oil contact with the rubber causes belt deterioration, slippage, or sudden breakage, potentially causing severe engine damage. Experts emphasize that adhering to regular maintenance schedules and periodic inspection of these components is the optimal way to avoid sudden breakdowns and extend the vehicle's lifespan.
