Egyptian Pound Holds Steady as Dollar Trades Near EGP 50.17 at Major Banks
The number barely moved. The US dollar traded within a narrow range against the Egyptian pound during midday trading on Tuesday across major banks, while market participants kept a close watch for any sudden swings in the American currency in the coming period. The foreign exchange market is on alert.
Dollar Rate at the Central Bank of Egypt
The greenback held steady at EGP 50.16 for buying and EGP 50.30 for selling at the Central Bank of Egypt, a level that signals relative balance between supply and demand inside the banking sector. Trading volumes suggest limited buying pressure on the currency.
Minor Variations Across Government and Private Banks
The National Bank of Egypt fixed its rate at EGP 50.17 for buying and EGP 50.275 for selling, while Banque Misr quoted the dollar at EGP 50.17 for buying and EGP 50.27 for selling — a half-piaster difference between the two state-owned lenders.
Commercial International Bank (CIB) posted a slightly different price, with the dollar at EGP 50.10 for buying and EGP 50.20 for selling, giving customers a bit of room to shop around when executing currency exchanges in the local market.
The gap between government and private banks remains within a few piasters in current trading. All signs point toward continued stability unless broader shifts occur in monetary policy or foreign currency inflows during the weeks ahead.
