Total market hits 117,000 vehicles with 30% growth

Egypt's total vehicle market recorded around 117,000 units sold in the first seven months of 2026, compared to roughly 90,000 in the same period last year. That's a 30% jump. The figures suggest that purchasing power is gradually returning to the market, with rising demand for new cars across all segments. The demand surge wasn't limited to one category — it covered economy and mid-range vehicles alike.

54,000 imported vehicles sold at 45% growth rate

The biggest surprise came from imported vehicles. AMIC's report recorded approximately 54,000 imported vehicles sold in the first seven months of 2026, compared to over 37,000 in the same period of 2025 — a growth rate approaching 45%. This raises a critical question: will competition between local production and imports intensify? It already has. Vehicle prices will shift in response to this rivalry.

What does this mean for Egyptian buyers?

In the near term, higher local output and rising imports mean broader choices. Consumers will find more models available from various brands, including Toyota, Nissan. Hyundai — whether locally assembled or imported. But price relief may not arrive immediately, since shipping costs and customs duties remain influential factors. The equation is complicated.

During those seven months, three figures framed the entire market: 19% growth in local manufacturing, 30% growth in total sales, and 45% growth in imported vehicle sales. Total market volume passed 117,000 units. Local production approached 63,000 vehicles. The numbers speak clearly.
