Local Assembly Drives Egypt's Truck Sales Growth by 34.8% in 5 Months
A strong leap is reshaping Egypt's truck market. Truck sales surged 34.8% during the first five months of the year, reaching 12,900 vehicles compared to 9,572 units in the same period last year. The momentum is faster than many anticipated.
Local Assembly Takes the Lead
Data from the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) reveals that locally assembled trucks jumped 26.3%, hitting 11,035 vehicles during the same timeframe, versus roughly 8,736 units in the comparable period. The numbers confirm that domestic manufacturers now command the largest share of demand.
The gap between local and imported is striking. Imported trucks across all categories soared by 123% to 1,865 vehicles, compared to just 836 units in the prior period. This remarkable surge reflects shifting buyer preferences and evolving supply-demand dynamics.
Reading the Numbers and Market Signals
Will this momentum hold? Upcoming monthly data will determine whether the current growth is a temporary rebound or a sustainable trend in the commercial vehicle segment. Current indicators paint a positive picture for a sector witnessing notable expansion amid infrastructure projects and rising logistics activity.
Egypt's market is gradually shifting toward greater reliance on domestic manufacturing in the truck segment, a reality clearly reflected in the recorded figures. The next challenge lies in maintaining this upward trajectory while meeting growing demand.
